Response & Process
-
How fast can you take care of our situation?
We respond immediately — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year including holidays. For emergencies like active water damage or fire, we can typically have a crew on site within 1 to 2 hours of your call in the Appleton and Stevens Point areas.
The faster we respond, the more we can save. Water damage worsens significantly within the first 24 to 48 hours — mold can begin developing in as little as 24 hours and structural materials absorb moisture quickly. That is why we never have after-hours — we are always available.
For non-emergency situations, we will schedule an assessment at a time that works for you, typically within the same business day.
-
What should I do immediately after water, fire, or mold damage?
The most important thing is to call us first before you clean anything up or throw anything away.
Here is what to do in the meantime:
- Water damage: Shut off the water source if possible. Do not use electrical appliances in wet areas. Do not run fans or your HVAC — this can spread contamination.
- Fire damage: Do not enter until authorities have cleared the structure. Do not attempt to clean soot or smoke damage yourself — improper cleaning can permanently set stains.
- Mold: Do not disturb the affected area.
Cleaning mold without proper containment can spread spores throughout your home.
Call us at (920) 428-4200 before taking any action. We will walk you through exactly what to do while we are on our way.
-
How long does the mitigation process take?
Mitigation timelines vary depending on the type and severity of damage:
- Water mitigation: Typically 3 to 5 days. We use commercial-grade equipment and monitor moisture levels daily until your home meets IICRC dryness standards.
- Fire and smoke mitigation: Can range from a few days to several weeks depending on extent of damage.
- Mold remediation: Typically 1 to 5 days depending on the size and severity of the affected area.
We provide a clear timeline after our initial assessment and keep you updated throughout. Your project
manager is available to answer questions at any stage.
-
Do I need to leave my home during restoration?
It depends on the extent of damage. In many water damage situations you can remain in unaffected
areas during mitigation. However:
- •Severe water damage affecting large portions of the home may require temporary displacement for safety and proper drying.
- Fire and smoke damage often requires displacement due to air quality and structural safety concerns.
- •Mold remediation uses containment barriers, but temporary relocation may be recommended depending on severity.
If you need to temporarily vacate, your homeowner's insurance may cover Additional Living Expenses including hotel and meals. We can help you navigate this with your adjuster.
Insurance & Claims
-
Do you work with my insurance?
Yes — we work directly with all major insurance carriers and their adjusters. We handle the documentation, estimates, and communication with your insurance company so you do not have to navigate that process alone.
We build our reconstruction estimates using Xactimate — the same software your insurance adjuster uses. This ensures our scope of work is documented in a format your insurer recognizes and cannot easily dispute.
We have worked with virtually every major carrier: State Farm, Allstate, American Family, Farmers, Erie, Nationwide, Travelers, and many others.
-
Should I call my insurance company first or JG Restoration first?
Call us first. The faster mitigation begins, the less damage occurs — and that ultimately benefits everyone including your insurer. Waiting for insurance approval before starting mitigation can result in significantly more damage.
We can begin emergency mitigation immediately while you notify your insurance company. We
document everything from the moment we arrive, which actually strengthens your claim.
Once mitigation is underway, we work directly with your adjuster on the claim documentation. You can
call your insurer to report the claim at any time — we coordinate from there.
-
What if my insurance adjuster's estimate is lower than yours?
This happens more often than most homeowners realize — and it is one of the most important reasons to have an experienced restoration contractor in your corner.
We advocate directly with your insurer on your behalf using Xactimate line-by-line documentation to
justify every item in our scope. In many cases we are able to negotiate a supplement to the original
estimate.
You should never feel pressured to accept a settlement that does not cover the actual cost of restoration.
Call us before signing anything
-
Will filing a claim raise my insurance rates?
The answer depends on your specific policy, carrier, and claim history. We are not insurance agents — speak with your agent directly about rate implications for your situation.
What we can tell you is that most homeowner's policies exist precisely for situations like fire, water, and storm damage. Paying out of pocket to avoid a rate increase often costs far more than the rate difference
over time.
We are happy to give you a damage assessment first so you have a dollar figure to work with before calling your agent.
Quality, Warranty & Trust
-
Do you offer any warranties?
Yes. JG Restoration stands behind our work. We offer a workmanship warranty on our reconstruction and rebuild services — specific terms are outlined in your project agreement. For mitigation work, we follow IICRC standards — the industry gold standard for restoration. Our drying
and remediation processes meet or exceed the standards your insurance company expects.
If anything does not look right after we complete your project, call us. We will make it right.
-
Are you licensed, insured, and certified?
Yes on all three. JG Restoration holds a Wisconsin General Contractor license and carries full liability insurance and workers compensation coverage. We encourage you to ask any restoration contractor
you consider hiring to verify the same.
Our team follows IICRC standards for water mitigation (S500), fire and smoke restoration (S700), and mold remediation (S520) — the same standards your insurance company references when evaluating
restoration work.
We have been in business since 2007 — nearly 18 years serving Northeast Wisconsin families. Our reputation is everything to us.
-
Do you use subcontractors?
JG Restoration handles all mitigation work with our own trained, in-house crews — not subcontractors. For certain specialty reconstruction trades such as electrical or plumbing, we may coordinate licensed
subcontractors, but your project manager remains your single point of contact throughout.
You will always know who is working in your home, and every person on your project is accountable to
JG Restoration's standards.
Commercial Services
-
Do you offer commercial restoration services?
Yes. JG Restoration serves both residential and commercial clients across Northeast Wisconsin. We have experience working in:
- Office buildings and commercial properties
- Retail and restaurant spaces
- Multi-family residential buildings and apartment complexes
- Industrial and warehouse facilities
- Property management portfolios
Commercial restoration often requires faster turnaround and more complex coordination to minimize business disruption. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.
General Questions
-
What areas do you serve?
JG Restoration serves Northeast and Central Wisconsin from two locations:

- Stevens Point location: Stevens Point, Wausau, Wisconsin Rapids, Plover, Marshfield, and surrounding Central Wisconsin communities.
Not sure if we cover your area? Call us at (920) 428-4200 and we will let you know right away.
-
How does the payment process work?
For insurance claims, payment typically flows directly from your insurance company to JG Restoration, with you responsible for your deductible. We walk you through exactly how this works at the start of your
project.
For work not covered by insurance, we provide a detailed written estimate before any work begins. We collect a deposit at the start of reconstruction with the remainder due upon completion.
We never ask for full payment upfront, and we do not surprise you with unexpected charges. If additional damage is discovered, we discuss it with you and your adjuster before proceeding.
-
What happens if more damage is found during the project?
It happens. Once walls are opened or flooring is removed, additional damage sometimes becomes visible. When this occurs:
- We stop immediately and document the newly discovered damage with photos and detailed notes.
- We contact you right away to walk you through what we found.
- We submit a supplemental claim to your insurance company with full documentation.
- We never proceed with additional work without your knowledge and approval.
-
What is contents cleaning and pack-out?
When your home sustains significant damage, your belongings often need to be removed, cleaned, and stored while restoration work is completed. This is called pack-out and contents cleaning.
Our contents team carefully inventories, packs, and transports your belongings to our facility where they are cleaned using appropriate methods for each item type — from furniture and clothing to electronics and documents.
Contents cleaning and pack-out is typically covered by your homeowner's insurance policy. We document every item for your insurer.
